Task 28 – STATEMENT OF INTENT

Music Video

My current idea for my music video is to make it a memorable story that fits the song. The video will open with a boy passed out from a party he had just thrown. His dad had just gotten back from his business trip and sees what has just happened. His dad gets very angry and the boy runs away. He gets his things and go on his pedal go-kart and rides into the country with his friends.

The concept of the video will defiantly fit the genre of music and audience. The song itself is Get Lucky by Daft Punk which fits perfectly into the POP genre. It has a constant up beat vibe to it and has no miner aspects. The video features teenagers seeing around and going on a journey together. They are happy and content throughout the video which shows their mood to be good.

The target audience for this project are fun-loving and up beat teens/young adults from the age of 16-25. I am positive that my video will attract these people. The song is about partying and having a good time with your friends and is often played at dance parties. My video features teenagers and friends. The story of my video is defiantly relatable to many teenagers in the same situation which will entice further into my music video.

Sony’s company values are Dreams, integrity and viewpoint. All three of these company values will be portrayed in my music video as my video shows the sometimes difficult relationships between parents and their children.

The genre for this project his POP music . After choosing my track “Get Lucky” i new i would need to make a suitable video that linked well and emphasised the genre. To achieve this i would need actors which fit the role of my vision on what would be happing in the music video. They would need to portray the story well and show the message. The artist and the main characters would portray “chavers” as they suit the type of teens i want in the storyline.

For my video miss-en-scene will be very important and will play a key role in the final production of the video. Through out the video i would like there to be a wide verity of locations for when i shoot. This will make the scene look better quality and that more time has been put into it. It will also bring out the characters emotions and will help the viewer on what is going on. If possible i would want each character to have their own unique costume and background. For my idea of what will happen in the video, there will need to be quit a few major props that would be used in most scenes in the video. Without them i feel the song would not bring out the same affect that i want.

The mies-en-scene will represent emotion, storyline and different sections of the song. For example, when my main singer gets of his pedal go-kart and sits on the side of the road he will look at some pictures of his dead mother. It will then cut to his father doing the same thing expressing emotion in the video using props. Making the storyline obvious is sometimes hard however, using miss-en-scene makes things easier. The first scene in the video will be the father finding out what happened when he was away and the son passed out on the ground but just waking up to see him. The props and the location will make clear on the back story that had taken place.

These particular representations will attract my audience in a way that will make them understand and maybe even relate the situation of the relationship between the father and son to themselves in reality. Also what the friends in the video will be doing with each other and the adventure that they will undertake together.

The chosen actors will perform in a way that suits the idea of the storyline and how i want them to represent the characters. They way the perform the characters helps the audience notice the genre and how it links to the song and video.

There are certain aspects of the video i have not yet properly covered in depth. Such as lighting, SFX, spastic shots and others. When i come closer to shooting the video i will cover these positions closer.

The massage of my video will be handling relationships between friends and family and seeking adventure or experience. More specifically your parents. It will fit the genre as most people in my video are teens. In reality i know that there are kids that sometimes face what my characters face.

Website

My website will be a clear and easy way of finding out more about the artist. It will feature news, the music video, the song and merchandise. The layout and the style of the website will be as close to the music video and the logo as possible to provide obvious links between the two.

After researching various websites such as Coldplay’s and Marshmello’s i have noticed certain things they both show. Coldplay’s website is styled in the same way their new album cover is styled. This allows the viewer to immediately recognise the link between the two. Similar to Coldplay’s website Marshmello has the same style on his home page however, he also has his logo everywhere making the home page and the website as a howl make more sense.

The front page on my website will include the logo, the video, about the artist, some photos and the song. The logo will be at the very top of the page just above the title of the page so the viewer does not miss it. I will have big pictures either of the robot or the boy from the video. The reason why i want the robot in the front page is because of its purpose in the video and because it is in the logo. Seeing the robot from a viewers perspective immediately reminds them of the video and the logo. The advertisement of the song in the front page is key because the front page is the first page the viewer sees.

The second page will be the news/contact page. It will feature tour dates, merchandise and a contact option. Like the home page the news page will have the logo at the top by the title. Below will be the tour dates with images beside to show what city will be visited. Further down will be merchandise images with prices. At the bottom will be the contact info.

Link

The synergy between my music video and website will be clear. I will fulfil this by making small details present within the two. For example having the robot in almost every shot in my music video tells the viewer its importance to the character and the artist but most importantly how its the face of the artist’s branding and advertisement. The robot makes appearances in the website on both pages as well as on the merchandise. The logo that sits in the music video is very clearly placed at the top of each of the websites pages.

Photographs and close ups of the robot will be featured in the website and enlarged on the front page. Not only will the robot appear on the merchandise clothing but the clothing itself will be the same kind as the character from the video will have worn for example the bucket hat.

This could potentially create a larger fanbase for the artist because of how easy and known the robot head is. All of the online social media and contact links the artist uses will have the logo as their photo further advertising their website and music. The simplicity of the website and the video have much in common making it more appealing for the audience and potentially attracting a wider range in age.

Task 24 -ARTIST WEBSITE ANALYSIS

Coldplay

Typography

The website has a clear design genre and idea which has an obvious connection to their music and their band itself. The font of the writing and the pictures and style brings off an old fashioned vibe to the viewer.

Fonts

The home page of the website features a big titles and a header saying Everyday life and something else in arabic emphasising this unique style and appearance of their website.

Background/Images

The background of all the pages is like an old fashioned wallpaper from the 1800s. The home pages features the howl band dressed in black tie in black and white making the image look like it was taken in the 1800s.

Logo

Their logo for this website consists of a yellow moon and sun. This is a reference to some of their albums featuring these emblems.

Marshmello

Typography

Marshmallow website is big and bold. His front page features everything you would need in your website such as products, tour dates, new music, new videos and more. The colouring and wording has a clear connection to him and his music.

Fonts

The fonts in this website are the same sort of fonts used in his album and song covers. Also his symbol/mascot the marshmallow helmet has the same sort of font showing the connection between the website and the artist and his music.

Background/Images

The background of the front page is simply white party balloons and confetti. The images are of marshmallow in his helmet either in cartoon or real life.

Logo

Marshmello’s logo is simply his helmet. What is interesting is (like daft punk) he wears his helmet whenever he is in public so it is not hard to recognise him.

TASK 21 – lOCATIONS

Boys Home (kitchen) – (photos will be added when i go home soon)

I chose this location as it is a key background into the boy’s personal life. Showing the audience where he lives and his daily life gives the character more meaning and tells you more about his upbringing. It is here where his father comes back on the daily finding him drunk or getting up to no good when his friends are over.

Country Road 1 –

After leaving from home he heads straight out on lonely road. Having him no his go-kart in the middle of the road by himself gives of a certain affect emphasising his motive to leave home without reconsideration.

Abandoned Quarry –

After traveling for sometime alone he loses his bearings and becomes confused on where he is. He decides to get off his go-kart and sits down. At this point he is thinking if leaving home was a good idea. This location has a huge impact on what the boys current thoughts are and his decisions are or will be. The atmosphere surrounding hime makes him look small and reminds him that he is out of his depth.

Country Road 2 –

He leaves the quarry and heads straight back onto the road this time with more intent than before. He has most defiantly made up his mind on what he wants and is on another country road with not a worry in the world.

Car Park On Hill (rock) –

He stops again to have a small rest. He sits on a rock by the side of a car park on a hill. Sitting on the rock he looks into the sunset. He then leaves his toy robot on the rock he was sitting on then leaves down the road again. This toy robot he has been taking with him is a simple of his childhood and leaving it shows that he has left his childhood and is now a grown up. This setting is perfect for the ending as it has a great view and has a poetic feel when he leaves the robot.
